The Sundarbans is a region that covers 3,900 square miles (10,000 square kilometers) of southern Bangladesh and a small section of Eastern India. This region is densely covered by mangrove forests and contains the largest natural reserve for the Bengal tiger. Over the past two centuries, approximately 2,600 square miles (6,700 square kilometers) of the Sundarbans’ land has been developed.
